P400 thoughts after 1000 miles
Well its been nearly 1 month since pick up and my Defender P400 has covered 1000 miles so I thought I would share my thoughts so far.

As a daily driver the car is fabulous and you get looks from every corner when passing folk standing. The engine upon start up seems to rev highly for about 1 min but it seems to be more of a fan noise than the engine revving so I must pay more attention to it as when pulling away the engine is not racing etc - will report back on this later.

The finish is excellent and so far I have not had any rattles, bumps, bangs or wind noise issues but I have noticed the panoramic roof and blind are a little temperamental and stick if really hot - might be to do with the black roof!

Seats are very comfy and easy to operate and set and there is plenty of storage with a large (ish) space under the boot floor that currently holds the tow bar and towing equipment/straps/shackles etc.

Fuel economy wise having driven to Hull and back I am getting 18mpg ish around the doors and 23.5mpg on a gentle run at approx 70 down the motorway - these I am sure will improve with more miles on and I think now I have the 225/60/20" Duratracs fitted I am loosing 1-2 mpg Whistle

Having the 11.4" screen makes fitting the Brodit dash mount difficult so looking for an alternative and hope Brodit will come up with a different design as even if it did fit when the phone is mounted it sits too close to the indicator stalk for comfort!

I have a few niggles and these are as follows;

Having programmed several favorite stations on the DAB radio they seem to disappear over night but only sometimes and not every night!

Why oh why can I not connect my expensive ipod to one of the many USB ports to play music? - I am old so don't have Soptydick or any other music streaming service but I do have itunes and a large capacity ipod?

Why have LR deleted the center sun visor - it was such a good idea?

Having said the above, I absolutely love the new Defender and look forward to driving it every time I go out even if its just to the local shop or in my case petrol station lol.

Glad you are enjoying it, put nearly 17,000 K’s on mine and very happy with the fuel economy,
On long runs I have been getting around 26mpg, it has averaged 22.4 mpg over the last
6000 k’s.

Yep the Duratracs lose a few MPG. Noted a similar loss on my D3 V8.

Looking forward to our P400XS arriving.

UK I would say otherwise it would nearer 30mpg UK which is a tad too far.

I would do 23 to 24mpg on a run in my D3 V8 4.4 on Duratracs so I would expect a little more out of the Defender as its quite high geared

You should be able to plug your iPod into one of the USB sockets in the front centre console. Apple CarPlay won't work but you can control playback from the media controls on the Pivi Pro screen. Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S
Gone: Defender 90 HT 200Tdi, Discovery Sport, Freelander 2

I was going to say. I can get 21 US mpg if I stick to 55mph and below, but it’s usually 18 or lower with my lead foot.

Imperial (UK), most of that contribution is due to long distance highway based driving
over the last 4 months ..I usually keep to the speed limit, which is 100/110KPH, or
thereabouts Whistle yet another pommie bar steward down under

Sounds a little heavy. Seen this before and quite impressed considering the rain. To put that into some sort of context. I drove my BMW 3.0D X5 down through France one year in slightly heavier rain and I struggled to acheive 26mpg over the wet 300miles.

Had a 300 mile round trip last week and was sticking to the UK speed limit of 70mph and averaged 22.3mpg which is as good as I think I'm going to get for a while until the engine has covered more miles and loosened off a bit Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

Oh I just ordered the Brodit holder, but my Defender will be fitted with the 11.4" screen (though I didn't order that one)

Perhaps this will do it: phone and/or can holder, fixed with a bolt

My bad. Embarassed I'd read in the iGuide that iPods would work. Just tried it using a redundant iPod nano (Gen7), needless to say it wouldn't show up.

Having now read the iGuide properly, it says:

Quote:
Compatible portable devices include:
USB mass storage devices, e.g., a memory stick. Devices must use NTFS or FAT32.
Apple iPod devices using a lightning connector: iPad, iPod Touch, iPod Mini and iPhone Gen5 onward are supported. Full functionality for older devices cannot be guaranteed. iPod Classic Gen1, Gen2, Gen3, Gen4, Gen5, Gen6; iPod Nano Gen1, Gen2, Gen3, Gen4, Gen5, Gen6, Gen7 and iPod Shuffle are not supported.
