not had a lot of luck with GG AT2's on our RRS when dealing with anything harsher than gravel / unsealed roads,
the sidewalls seem very prone to punctures where there is rock and flint around, very similar to the Goodyear Wranglers fitted by LR. Might be worth checking to see if the AT3's are made of "tougher stuff" yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

I can't comment on the size but as a tyre I think the AT3's are great. I've got them fitted to my 110 and they're quiet and excellent in the wet. They're also mountain/snowflake winter rated, which was something I particularly wanted.
I've had AT2's on three previous Land Rovers (Freelander 1, TD5 110 and D3) and never had any problems, which was one of the reasons that I went for the AT3 this time around. some of it will be down to the profile i suspect, 255/50 R19 on the RRS.. lucky the Defender has a far bigger profile 255/65.. waiting to swap out to 18' as Tuff Ant state they will have a solution for the bigger brake D300/P400 shortly for Australia, then will look at something like Falken or BFG which seem to be the popular choice in the US and OZ A few stories on the FB group owners and as Tim (of Scottish fame) can attest to here, the Goodyears seem pretty flaky from a sidewall perspective, plenty of moans from owners who get it off the bitumen on a regular basis of even the Duratracs not being up to the task. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

On my Freelander 2 I had the AT2 and AT3. The AT2 were great even in snow. But the AT3 were terrible in rain. The car slipped away in roundabouts.

That's really strange - I'm finding them to be brilliant on my Defender. Genuinely confidence inspiring in the wet. Darren

Perhaps I got a Bad production version.
When I sold the Freelander the new owner changed the tyres. He said too dangerous. In forest paths and mud they were great: got through with trailer full of 1 ton of wood. Where BMW X3 with 750 kg trailers got stuck. 22MY Defender 110 (actual) | 10MY Freelander 2 (history) | 15MY Discovery Sport HSE (history) |
