The sound quality of the factory Defender audio is dreadful! I'm a music lover and really into audio, having nice quality kit around the house so I really do notice it in the Defender.
I upgraded the head unit to an Alpine UTE-93DAB after the original LR one bit the dust and now I would like to change both the woofers and tweeters for a decent set of components. Obviously sound quality is important, but I want the tweeters to fit well and appear almost factory in their little dash pods. Woofer appearance is not so important as they hide behind grilles. Can anybody recommend something with tweeters that look right in the pods? Pictures would be really appreciated I appreciate that the quality is never going to amazing with the noise but some additional volume and clarity wouldn't go a miss. I may add a sub in the future but for now just components. > 110 XS Double Cab |

I can second the Focal ES100K’s having fitted them to mine. They fit well, look good and sound well.
I’d say a subwoofer is a must though, to get the full depth of sound quality. Otherwise you’ve only got the mid and high range from the components, regardless of the quality. I fitted the focal ibus2.1 sub, sounds amazing. |

I have this little 8" Sub now strapped in position (with a speaker cover) under middle row of seats.
Its only very narrow so does not get in the way of feet... Adds to the overall performance Click image to enlarge |

Simplist option is to introduce a sub, it will provide warmth to the overall sound.
You’d be surprised how much this will improve the sound |

Thanks, will get a set of Focal's ordered Do the woofers need spacer rings? Is that what I can see in your post stacey007? Maybe it is the grille > 110 XS Double Cab |

I am no expert, but again like my music, I would suggest a listen to the focals before you press the button if you can, I had focal es100k front and focal 130 rears each mated to an individual pioneer amp, JVC 745 headunit and focal sub, I just found the es100 quite harsh almost too bright regardless of settings so replaced all speakers with Audison (kept the sub) - a lot better - but still not happy , thinking about new amps and headunit in that order but one for the future

Oh really? Even with the head unit EQ adjusted? I like a lot of high end in my music and always turn it up a bit. Can be wearing though if too much. Will try to have a listen... Could be easier said than done in the current climate! > 110 XS Double Cab

I did my absolute not to get rid of the Focals as it cost the same again to replace with Audison - tried pink noise to set eq, amps , sub settings but just couldnt sort it - a few forums mention this about Focal - but so many people on forums say they are great - interested to see what you choose and how you get on |

I've just fitted the ES100k kit up front on my Puma, and very pleased with the difference. It needs the sub added which should go in next week ( ibus 2.1) along with a pair of Focals in the rear too. Hopefully with the soundproofing that'll be it sorted

Hi Hank
I put the crossovers up inside the dash, putting them through the speaker hole and fixing them to the inner side of the dash with number plate tape. Do you have rear speakers fitted into he Double Cab ? Wondering where to put them in mine. Tony |

Ok thanks. Wondered whether to do the same but the crossovers are fairly weighty!
Just the fronts in a double cab. Big ask for a pair of 10cm woofers! May look at a sub in future > 110 XS Double Cab |

Hank, from one DC owner to another, I’ve got the following Sub/Amp which fits perfectly under the rear seats and provides more than enough oomph in our smaller cabin. It also amps the front speaker so adds a little more power to my focal tweeters/speakers with crossovers.
https://www.focal.com/en/car-audio/car-aud...es/ibus-21 I’ll also be using the Focal mini amp and adding four speakers, two above each b-pillar, two in the rear corners. Full surround sound. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
