Hi All,
Defender TD4, 2.4L 2007 History: recently one of the injector bridles came loose, banging, loss of power, injectors replaced, everything tidied up and fine for about 6,000 kms Now, there is a knocking sound, as a first guess, I thought big or little end. However, the noise is clearly from the top end, and almost inaudible at the bottom end, excluding that hypothesis. Full power available. Drives fine. Just knocking. My thought is that when the injections came loose something (part of the copper washer.. part of the injector…. Something else) went through the engine and caused some damage. Now, the stealers that did the repair saw nothing amiss, and everything was fine for the following 6,000km / 3 months…. Anyone have any ideas where to start? The injectors are in and sealed correctly, and the timing chain correctly tensioned. |

Remove the injector and check for piston damage with a boroscope???
Some of the experienced engineers on here should be able to cast more light IIRC there was an early problem with piston cooling jets but that would have shown up in the last 13 years surely |
