Brightwells are the official auctioneers for surplus MOD equipment, so do have penmans up for auction most of the time, just remember you add vat plus buyers fee, so circa 33% on top of winning bid. Plus unless you inspect before bidding you won’t know the true condition of the penman.
However bargains can be had, just remember you will need a natio pintle to tow and a light board as the lights are 24volt and will need bulbs changing to 12v and the connector is a 12 pin nato connector so will need an adapter to convert to 7 pin or 13 pin civilian tow electrical sockets. |

Just out of interest what would those Penmans typically go for?

Generally the tidy ones go around £600, plus the commission and vat.
Then you have collection fuel and time to consider. |

Don't forget the rather large 5k deposit so you can register to bid.
weeds out the timewasters who think its like ebay |

I saw that too, certainly put me off as I was keen until that bit. I wouldn't have been a timewaster but it definitely made me think twice about my spur of the moment thoughts

I purchased on last year, paid the £5K deposit on a credit card to register, won a lot and they refunded the balance of the £5K (less purchase price) within 48 hours. While it is a big value deposit for the bid value it wasn't sat on my card for long. Keith |

Make sure you buy one with Modification 1 completed (1 will be struck out on the mod record plate near the draw bar data plate). it was a braking system modification. Some 2004 made penmans don't have this done, but all the 2005 or 2006 made ones that i've seen do. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent
