My gut tells me this was a series 1 found in a state overseas, imported back, registered correctly then had the chassis etc done when it should have been SVA'd and given a Q plate as theres nowhere near enough of the Series left for it to have been given an age related plate if it was on a Q plate. The documentation needed can be quite tricky. |

Not possible, I believe. If it was a kit car assembled in 2015 from unused components it would have a 2015 registration, if assembled from old components it would fall under the points rules and the fact that the chassis, suspension, steering, engine, gearbox, transfer box, axles, and brakes (at the very least) are from indeterminate sources means that, to the best of my knowledge, it cannot legally retain an "original" 1952 registration and would get a "Q" plate. If it was registered on a Q-plate, then as far as I know it would not be possible to buy a vanity plate or transfer any other plate on in its place. If it was built in 2015 it would not be MOT exempt, but the fact that the registration details state "manufactured 1952" (which it clearly wasn't) would make it so. If it was built and registered as a kit car in 2015 it would also have had to pass a type approval inspection, which wouldn't be possible with the tyre protrusion evident in the photos. The registration details ("manufactured 1952", "first registered 2015") are clearly absurd since virtually nothing remains of the 1952 vehicle and the few 1952 parts which are visible cannot be traced to a particular vehicle (body panels etc are untraceable on the whole). Therefore the only way that the details that are presented in the advertisement could be recorded is if a number fraudulent declarations have been made. It is likely that at some stage a registration officer from a reputable motor club should have been required to inspect and authenticate the vehicle, and this is something I find especially disturbing. |

Could it be possible that this was legit and then swapped over to a 'new' chassis ? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I've definitely seen worse at least it isnt just the usual 90 rung onto a Series ID! Someone has obviously spent a lot of time building it onto a shortened Discovery 1 chassis and managed to squeeze aTD5 and full size R380/LT230 into it (the rear prop must be interesting) I guess the problem occurs when the new owner is stopped by a knowledgeable traffic cop and is asked to explain why he hasnt paid road tax or had a MOT?

^^^ It's not a TD5, the link in excossack's post below has a photo which clearly shows that it isn't a TD5 but something else, but I don't actually recognise what it is.
