TD5 Air con retrofit
Hello guys,

New member here Smile

I've a late model TD5 station wagon, which I'm thinking about retrofitting air-con to.

Can anybody advise on good kit to buy whether used or new aftermarket etc? Any idea what I can expect for the cost of process?

Also any specialists / garages down south (although don't mind travelling a bit) who can help or advise further?

Thank you Thumbs Up

I know its hot at the moment, but I would consider if its worth it.

The factory fit air con unit for the Td5 is not that great - at best it cools your knees. I've got it fitted to my 90, and I frankly prefer to have the front vents and windows open - but in fairness I don't sit in stop start traffic which I guess you might if you are driving in London.

Perhaps other people have a more positive view of the factory fit stuff than me. 2005 Td5 90 XS

The TD5 AC isnt as good as Puma system and niether can be described as class leading but is certainly a big improvement on the standard ventilation. AC is also great for demisting all windows in damp conditions

Its perfectly adequate, not exactly brilliant, you just need to mess with the adjustable vents to get the best out of it, and of course ensure its leak free and has plenty of gas so its properly cold. Needs to be on max cold setting on very hot/humid days like recently. It is a welcome luxury and certainly worth having in my view.

Sorry, I am unable to help with the installation side though, good luck if you go ahead with it Thumbs Up

Don’t bother, get your flaps open, your elbow out the window and enjoy the world outside.

Having freezing cold keys, and one chilly knee won’t help if it’s hot. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Have to disagree here!

I have factory AC in my 110 and its great. Yeah you have to adjust all 4 vents just so for good flow and keeping it cool but I would not be without it even if i have to regas yearly Laughing

Especially the past few days its been a godsend. Instagram @defender_ventures
