A bit of a long shot but does anybody have one of these gathering dust that they'd like to part with? Out of stock anywhere that I can find them at the moment (despite what websites say ) and no indication of when they'll be available.

Yeah, I don't really have the time to start from scratch with a fabricator. Why do you say you wouldn't trust it, though? It's a fairly ordinary piece of receiver hardware. Whilst not common over here for obvious reasons, they're readily available in the States. Darren

as far as i know and last time i checked the 2" receivers where not uk road legal or type approved, same applies to europe.
now that may have changed since brexit and if so great news. terrafirma sell them but will not answer any queries over whether they are road legal in uk.....have a go and ask them the question. all the load when pulling is spread over the single pin in 2 small contact patches. lots in usa have 2 pins to lock the bar/ extensions in place. |

I presume that you've tried Brendan at 4x4Overlander since that appears to be his photo! If not, give him a call. He gets these from Safari Equip who would also be worth a call if you haven't already done so. I have two from SE, a standard one and an extended one for my front receiver, so even if they don't have them in stock the "can you make me one" conversation night be worthwhile.
Incidentally these are technically BS Au24 mounts, rather than NATO pintle mounts, since the pintle is designed to the BA Au24 four-bolt standard (not that this makes any particular difference to your search).
I'm not sure why you would say that, it is no weaker than any other 2" receiver fitting and probably stronger than many of those designed to accommodate BS Au 114a fittings. In the 'States, 2" receivers (ie Class III and IV) are rated to 10,000lbs GTW, so even though not Type Approved in the UK or EU a similar component from a reputable manufacturer should be of adequate strength. My Defender is of an age which means it does not need TA towing equipment and I regularly tow up to 3500kg gross on my rear receiver, I have never had the slightest issue. |

This has never been the case! There are many vehicles which do not require Type Approved towing equipment and which can therefore quite legally use a 2" receiver system. There are however even more which do need TA towing equipment which therefore at present cannot use a 2" receiver system. There is no technical reason whatsoever why a 2" receiver system shouldn't be Type Approved, it is simply than none of the (generally small volume) manufacturers which serve a rather niche market have felt that it is cost-effective to do so, and there is absolutely nothing about a 2" receiver system which makes it automatically illegal in the UK and/or ECE. So a truer summary of the situation would be to say that most but by no means all vehicles require Type Approval on any fitted towing equipment, and there are no commercially-available Type Approved 2" receiver hitch systems available within the UK or ECE. Vehicles which do not require Type Approval on their towing equipment however can use a 2" receiver system completely legally within the UK. |

I have one, probably never going to use it.
I picked it up for an American vehicle I have in case I fitted a tow bar to it. I doubt it has ever been used. From memory it has 3 sets of holes, or it might be 2 sets but it definitely is more of an offset than your photo. I presume they can go either way up? It is heavy. Solid 2” bar, plus the plate. Probably best if we swap measurements as I don’t know if they are all the same? I won’t get a chance to measure mine before Saturday though |

Yep, ordered one yesterday as their website showed in stock but then Brendan called to say he didn't actually have any and neither did Safari Equip, with no date for when they might be available. Apparently they're very busy with long lead times at the moment. Thanks for the thought Bob, but I really need the one in the photo. I've already got one with more of an offset. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |
