He's certainly impressed with the Grenadier.
Why oh why couldn't JLR have produced something like this? Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

Because JLR are only interested in selling cars with larger profit margins and calling them 'luxery'. Its a choice they have made, whether that works for them in the long run we will just have to wait and see. 2005 Td5 90 XS

At last, someone (hopefully) poking all the right bits and getting up close and personal with the real detail
Noticed in other photos, but particularly that video, just how wide the rain guttering is ~ it's huge. I'm not going to post on YouTube but my questions would be: 1. Which version of the ZF 8HP gearbox is being used? 2. Details on the operation of front & rear diff locks. 3. Are the axles the same series as used on the Iveco Daily 4x4? 4. What's the reasoning behind it being 2.13m wide? 5. What do the off road mode switches do? Last edited by Supacat on 12th Jul 2021 9:10pm. Edited 2 times in total |

My question would be:
is there a short wheel base version planned? |

No. Seats fold flat, but Ineos appear to have their own version of "stepgate" Click image to enlarge Designed in apparently ~ a splashback for when you hose out the rear. Click image to enlarge |

Thanks for the video share.
Really looking forward to seeing one 'in the flesh' it seems that they have really put some thought and effort in. Rgds. Chris |

Thanks, but I’m specifically wondering regards the Swb (if there is to be one). It may depend on whether it would have a row of 3 (as per the Lwb), or some sort of tip-up seats like Classic Def. I could live with the above step in the Lwb, but seeing the step in the ND 90 was a huge disappointment for me, when much of the time I run 1 seat up, 1 folded, as a 3-seater. If I regularly needed 4 or more seats I’d just get the Lwb. |

Thanks Bluest for posting I'm trying to get the video done by the end of the week, and it won't be short by any means.... Supacat, i'll add a few details here 1. We asked the question and are hoping to get the answer in an email 2. Electric solenoid. Not sure yet if it acts within the diff or on the halfshaft 3. Don't know. The diffs are slightly different from other prototypes that have been seen. As is the suspension that I saw 4. Probably crash protection. Keep the drivers in the same place and move the doors outwards 5. The wading mode disables parking sensors and the seatbelt bong sound when it's undone. Not sure on the "off road" button specifically but traction control and DSC are turned off in low range. (I was told no vehicle is legally allowed to fully turn them "off", but they're massively dampened in what they do compared to the driver's input) p.s. the rain guttering I think is a very basic mockup. It's just a flappy bit of plastic. That vehicle was an "interior" prototype rather than an "exterior" one, so a fair amount of wobbly plastic. It will be worse if anything in a SWB version, there's not much room to fold away a proper seat in anything SWB.

"This thing is epic..."
That's really got me wanting to see more. Might have to nip down to one of the summer roadshow events. |

I recommend everyone gets underneath when you can. It's still a prototype and I saw evidence that they're testing different configurations underneath. The end vehicle may not be totally identical to what I saw, and they're trying to do quite a lot of weight reduction to the final vehicles, but it will compete with (or surpass) the 70 series on durability (in my opinion). 70 Series is surely the closest rival, and it's getting very old.
