Nothing you can do apart from get on the phone to all the local builders merchants you can find.
I had a similar issue sourcing plaster during lockdown 1.0, but managed to find a (new to me) local supplier who had just enough stock for me. The plaster was unsurprisingly rather expensive but I got what I needed. As it turns out, this new supplier was helpful and pretty well priced on other stuff, so have used them quite a bit since. |

Quantity wise is that 0.7m3 of concrete or of cement to mix to make your concrete? 2015 HT XS 90 2008 SVX 90 2000 XS TD5 90 |

I rung round everyone, none anywhere. I managed to get some a cement from Travis Perkins, so looks like I’ll be mixing up my own concrete. Jewson were rationing cement to 5 bags per customer so even that seems to be in short supply
One place told me the shortage is due to Hs2 buying up all the supplies, another said it was COVID, so who knows. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Surprised to read this as I laid a shed base slab on the weekend just gone. Got the materials from wickes as it was a bit short notice/last minute. I notice you are in Lancashire so checked and wickes Preston have 354 bags of cement in stock
Appreciate it’s a bit more expensive so up to you on whether cost or time is more important At 4:1 you’ll need 14 bags At 5:1 you’ll need 12 bags > 110 XS Double Cab |

Thanks, I’ll need another couple of bags then as I only got 10. Wicked Preston is a bit of a trek for me. I’m going to local-ish Wickes for my sand tomorrow, there website says low stock on cement, not able to to reserve, but I’ll get some if they have it. Incidentally Wickes is substantially cheaper than the TP or Jewson for this stuff in my experience. I don’t know if that’s because I’m a DIYer and don’t have an account or something, but it has always puzzled me as to why. For example today, TP charged me £6.50 a bag including VaT for the cement. If I’d have been able to get it from Wickes it would have cost me £5.20 for the exact same stuff. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

The cement manufacturers are prioritising supplies for the big builders - so I read a couple of weeks ago I think on Construction Enquirer’s website.
It’s a real pain if you have a project you need to get done. On a side plywood has virtually doubled in price and supplies can be hit and miss. Structural steel was increased by £150 a tonne in May and another £50 a tonne in June. Crucifying for the fabricators. I am sure the bubble will burst at some point but as with all things, I can’t see prices returning to where they were. |

Concrete is on allocation and as soon as it comes in items pretty much sold.
We go through about a thousand cube a week. And is a nightmare. I know at one point we raided b&q and Homebase but everyone clicked onto that even though their prices were a laugh they actually had some. I wish you luck on your quest! Volume = 0.7m3
Concrete density = 2400kg/m3 so concrete mass = 1680kg 4:1 mix = 5 parts total so 1680 / 5 = 336kg cement / 25kg per bag 13.44 bags... Say 14 5:1 mix = 6 parts total so 1680 / 6 = 280kg cement / 25kg per bag 11.2 bags... Say 12 > 110 XS Double Cab |

Hank, thanks for the precise data. I’ll calibrate my spade to ensure an accurate mix by knocking off the lumps of dried concrete from last time
