I think it might be down to the gear auto gear box. But hoping to be proved wrong.

May be make enquires with D T Engine solutions or 4x4 Fabrications, they seem to be the Defender engine experts. James

No experience of doing it, but there are reasons why TDV8 (and TDV6) swaps aren’t common - you’ll need suitable management for both engine and gearbox; I know a standalone ZF8 controller now exists, but I suspect you’d be starting from scratch with the engine given previous “solutions” like the Simtek ECU don’t appear to have been too successful.

TDV6 from Disco3, 4, ... - not very good engine from the point of long live. We have quite o lot of broken crank shafts here, resulting in expensive new engines. TD5, Puma TD4 - it is rare to see this problem. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

the ECU isn't the problem I will have one build from scratch (that will work with a TDCI clocks etc) the issue I have is finding a auto gear box that fits into a defender and fits a TDV8.

I agree but I want a bit more BHP and torque that the TD5 I have in my other defender, but also a good auto so as a daily driver. I am going from a TDV6 disco 4 to the 110.
