I do not think that ceased rear caliper would have any effect on the brake pedal feel.
So might be a master cylinder issue, not allowing the rear circuit pressure to relieve back into the reservoir. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Years ago I had this on my Lada Niva. The trick at the time was to place one washers between the master and brake slave to get me home.
Turned out the pushrod didn't have enough play and caused the brakes to come and stay on but this was all four wheels, Maybe due to the unique brake setup on the Lada. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

The local mechanic has been out and had a look, the pistons have pushed back in freely and brakes appear to operate without binding however the pedal now feels soft.
There's a continued softness in the pedal even when the engine is off and the residual servo effect has been depleted. No warning lights (TC or ABS) and there's plenty fluid in the reservoir. Could it be the ABS module where the brake lines start? Keith |

I overlooked the ABS module in my reply. I know nothing on ABS to advise anything. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I'll try a short drive around the site once it's all gone cold and see what happens.
Worst case it will all go back on a flatbed Keith |

So a quick drive up and down the site tells me.....
Rear brakes are now free but there is loads of travel in the pedal with or without the engine running. Very soft for the first 75% or more then you get the feel of the brakes increasing the resistance. I can still get the brakes to work when the pedal is nearing the end of it's travel but I'm not convinced on what power I'm going to get out of them so it's recovery I think. I'm guessing that I'm needing to look more at the Master cylinder, servo or ABS module etc Keith |

Did perhaps the mechanic open the bleed screw? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I believe he just pushed the pads back in.
I'm beginning to suspect Master cylinder as the likely candidate, but given I've got a recovery option that also covers the trailer I think that's going to be plan A. Keith |

I would be checking the piston length inside the servo that actuates the mc.
Something here or relationship between two could be issue, though that would usually result in front locking first. Hard pedal would suggest lockup in system with too much pressure . Seized calipers rear would not make pedal rock hard. It then being very soft, post mech visit would suggest air into system.
