1 ton 109
Hello all!

It is my first post here, and I honestly registered just to post this question,
but I'm seeing some cool stuff here. Anyways, my friend has just bought the truck attached in the photo below.
He found it at a yard near a port and bought it for a super reasonable price. The car is originally from Germany, it has been in our country since 1996 and has seen way better days, but is in good structure condition (no major rust spots) and runs.

My question is: is this a 1 ton 109?
If it is, how rare are these exactly? And if it isn't, what features are 1 ton 109 specific?

A good giveaway (assuming it still has its original chassis) is the front dumb-irons which should be extended and should also have the extended rear spring hangars.

Doesn't look like it has the 9.00X16 tyres on it but obviously they may have been changed. I think, but dont quote me on it, that the 1ton also had the removable gearbox crossmember as per the military chassis.

What engine does it have/did it have, 6cyl?

I'm not seeing any features that identify it as a one-ton, and I suspect that it is a standard 109 chassis-cab. In particular the suspension does not look compatible with 9.00x16 tyres (they'd foul the arches).

It is a very nice truck all the same, and a good find. Thumbs Up

I don't know how to reply to comments here but I guess this works.
I just looked closely on some 1 ton 109 models and they seem to all have the bed in the same body as the cabin (not separated from the cabin like my friend's truck).

And yes it is s 6 cylinder, which apparently isn't a very common engine (1975MY or 76 not really sure)

The 2.6 litre straight 6 is a very old fashioned but smooth engine (it is essentially the Series One 1.6 litre inlet-over-exhaust engine with two extra cylinders). The downside is that parts are very hard to find and very expensive.

Most 109" vehicles whether one-ton or not were not supplied as chassis-cabs (ie what your friend has), but that in itself doesn't mean that it isn't a one-ton. I still don't think it is, though, I think it is a rather nice 109" six cylinder.

The build records do not list the body style but so far as 1 Ton 109" go most were ordinary van or pickup bodies, I'd suggest maybe 25% might have been chassis cabs but they were actually quite rare in general. The body alone does not indicate whether it is a 1 Ton or not (although none were on the 88" chassis, or station wagons).

The chassis number would give a definitive answer, have a look at www.onetonlandrovers.co.uk for more info. Based on the photo nothing stands out that would suggest it is a 1 Ton, they were rare even when new. If it was it's already lost the wheels and suspension mounts, plus the bonnet is wrong for a 1 Ton, the dished type had side catches on a 1 Ton. 2011 110 USW
