United Kingdom 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green
Uprated road brakes
Hi all,

My 2014 puma is due discs and pads all round, and I fancy putting something slightly uprated on there. I’m not changing calipers, so I’m after information on uprated parts that fit the stock system. So I think I’m after drilled/grooved discs and some good quality pads.
I’ve had quite a few fast cars over the years, and uprated the brakes on a few of them, but the Defender is a bit of a different (heavier!!) animal.

There’s quite a few threads on the subject ( I think I’ve found/read them all) , but some are quite old and there are some new products around that have very little information I can find. So I thought I’d start a thread to (hopefully) get all the relevant advice in one place.

From what I can find the below are what drilled and grooved discs are currently available:

Britpart
Proline (Paddock’s own brand I think)
Terrafirma (with wavy edges!)
EBC
LOF PowerSpec

I think that’s it?

Price varies quite a lot :. Proline and Britpart are the cheapest, , then Terrafirma offerings, then EBC. And the LOF kit looks to carry a bit of a premium over the rest.

Pad options appear to be lots of different manufacturer’s standard road pads (Delphi seems to be highly recommended), but fewer options for uprated pads. EBC’s greenstuff and Yellowstuff seem to be fairly popular.

Has anyone got any experience of these that they can share? Particularly interested in anyone who has owned/driven more than one of the options.
I’m sure they’re all quite good, and will certainly be an upgrade from knackered standard parts, but hard to get a comparison if you’ve only driven the one option.

One last question, do you need to change the wheelbearings while you’re in there? Mine are fine currently with no play at all, but I can see it could be false economy to not. Mine’s done 75k miles and I have no reason to think that they’ve ever been changed.

Thanks in advance

Jon
