Standard steel wheel as a penman spare ?
I’m looking for a spare wheel for my penman. It’s currently on wolf rims with Michelin xzl 7.50 r16 tyres. Finding a reasonably priced second hand or mod surplus wolf rim with a Michelin xzl 7.50 r16 tyre is proving hard.

PS anyone who has one for sale or knows someone that has please message me.

I’m therefore wondering if a standard steel wheel will fit as there are more of them about.

Wolf steel rims are 6.5 inches wide with a 20.6 mm offset. Load about 2.2 ton.

Standard steel rims are 5.5 inches wide with a 33mm offset.load just over 1.6 ton so should be ok for a 1.75 GVW trailer spare.

So will a standard rim sit ok on a penman hub given it will encapsulate the brake calliper and disc by an additional 12.4mm ?

I can work out where different tyre options will sit re inboard and outboard clearances in the wheel arch due to the narrower standard wheel, just don’t know if it will fit ok on the hub due to the greater offset.

Thanks
Ian

I've not tried it but I would be very surprised if there were any issues.

Thanks blackwolf, I’m of the same mind, I can’t think why it would be a problem but wanted to check to see if anyone had done it to confirm my thoughts.
I will take a punt and go for it Very Happy

Thats just rubbing salt into the wounds Very Happy

I do spot some, but always miles away and cost a fortune to ship.

I will get there in the end, but most seem to be in the north or west of the country.

Well mother superior (Wes) came-up trumps. Two great penman wolf rims, with a standard rim thrown in free for good measure, and all for a great price. Many thanks Wes. Now for putting the Avon tyre on one of them.

Better still, it’s always great to meet a fellow member in person., seeing an immaculate well loved puma 110, a fabulous overland trailer, and having a nice chat.

How comes defender owners are all such nice grounded easy going people you just know you would have a great night chatting to in a pub... or getting somewhat tipsy with at a campsite BBQ.? Is it because having a Defender makes you like it, or because you are like it you love Defenders. ?

Sorry for the delay in replying, It's always great to meet a forum member and I'm glad the rims worked out for you.
If you carry on with this "night down the pub" talk there's a danger a SE defender meet up could break out!
Cheers
