In the gym here there is a poster with Greek ruins on it and says:

That statement really does sum up a Garry@Alive tune I still smile with the performance and service and my bank account has recovered Thumbs Up

With mine I average between 28 and 30 mpg. 50:50 on tarmac and dirt tracks (also haved 285s and a cage which don't help.

Ian, sorry for going Off Topic from me too Smile ....... but it will be worth it when you have an Alive map though Wink

Not yet- I want to fit my Alive de-cat pipe first so then I can get a new map altogether. I will be running Itg filter and full Alive exhaust then. I would go for a intercooler too, but finances are too short at the moment after shipping/ import costs to have her out here with me.

Does it make as big a difference as I have been hearing?

Glyn, its like getting your remap remaped Mr. Green ...more responsive on the throttle...also a lot smoother and more power you can feel the difference strait away Thumbs Up NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

Thanks for the comments and suggestions - Alive sounds good, although my local independent offers some sort of deal. Haven't worked out the mpg - another member of the fill it and go school. 30 mpg sounds great - what was the Alive cost? Vehicle is mostly used for towing a large touring caravan if that makes any difference. Ian One wife - livid

What kinda pushes the remap price up is the remap interface as these are not cheap, but do give you the ability to install either the remap file or the original OEM fuel file for dealer visits so retains your warranty. You can go to Alive and Gary will install a remap file without you having to buy the remap interface though it will be on for good or until the dealer updates the defender, as you will have no way of removing it.

@IanW: I tow a 26ft twin axle and the defender stays in 6th gear more now the remap is fitted as the increase in bhp and torque over standard is very noticeable Whistle

@Glyn: As Karlos says, the throttle is more responsive and there definitely seems to be a slight power rise though only a dynamo machine would be able to tell you conclusively. Because the EGR is now closed 100% of the time the engine now runs on what it is supposed to, Clean cold air and Diesel instead of being strangled by dirty exhaust gases and don't forget the inlet manifold won't be getting coked up either Thumbs Up

@90def: If I drive the defender as standard, I get around the 30mpg mark though that isn't very often as I have tried to be good for 1 tankfull so I could see for myself and have failed so many times that I no longer try. In boy racer mode I average 26 mpg which is still good, and when towing anywhere from 22-26 depending on weather and what way the wind is blowing Whistle
Also as there is more Torque available you don't need to rev as high when accelerating through the box which must save some fuel.... Wink

Genuinely fascinating stuff, for which I am very grateful, but I do still need to sell the Powerbox to buy something else with the dosh! Ian One wife - livid
