Fitted standard mud flaps - Tips
Morning all,

I realise that Simon @ Powerful UK does a fantastic job of videoing how to do almost everything, and I use them all the time.

I fitted the standard mudflaps yesterday (everyone else seems to favour the Classic larger ones but I didn't like the look)

It's easy enough to do, you DO need some spare clips for the ones that break (luckily I have a stock of spares of all sorts) but I thought I would highlight a couple of things I noted that may catch you out.

Front Mudflaps:

When you remove the side trim panel by simply pulling it away, the panel is actually 2 pieces clicked together and the outer panel can come off leaving the inner panel remaining. Shouldn't be too much pf a problem, just carefully re-position all the tangs and click it back together once off the car.

On mine, as it was newer than Simons, the 2 lower clips that LR say need a 3.9mm gap already have a black spacer on them to keep the correct gap. You definitely need to remove the wheel to gain access both sides but jacking and axle stands are easy on the front, there's a plate under the sub frame to place axle stands.

Rear Mudflaps:

Again, much easier to do if the wheel is removed. On diesels there is a heat shield on the left side that needs bending out the way a bit, no real gotchas here, when putting the wheel arch fabric back, the trim clip holes are slightly obscured by the mud flaps but you can flex it to make it work.

A word of caution for the right hand side when drilling the 2 x 9mm holes from underneath. Be VERY careful how far the drill passes through. The plastic AdBlue tank is above it and you could easily puncture it with the drill. I nicked mine but didn't pierce fully thank god.

I did them without removing any wheels

All I did was raise to off road height

At back - just unclipped 2 of the 3 clips for access (not all 3)

For drilling - I used a BS3 centre drill - so no issues


For the front - I just removed the one nearest clip on wheel arch liner and bent it back - pulled off the trim to bolt up after drilling. New Clips and refiitted.

Very straight forward - also drilled the third hole in the support bracket - to give more strength at the front.

Turned front wheels to give access.

Good tips too, thanks.

Having struggled with mud flaps on my D3 with the wheels on, I decided to alleviate my stress levels and just take them off! 2016 D4 HSE
