1987 Defender 90 300 Tdi HT Epsom Green
TD5 stalls when I press the hand brake button !!
When the engine is ticking over all is well, when I then release the hand brake it stalls. Various warning lights flash and there is a buzzing noise from one of the relays under the seat.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Almost certainly a bad seatbox/ECU earth. Probably earthing through the handbrake cable. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Yes it’s an earthing problem. Mine did it when I first got it. Easy fix too. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

As above bad earth.

Its basically using the handbrake cable as the earth.

Run a new one to the chassis.
