2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Orkney Grey

Northumberlands National Park February

We've booked a week in the middle of the Northumberland National Park for February half term next year. The place we're staying was advertised as "Access to the property is via a three mile Forestry Commission track. The road surface can be poor so please drive carefully. Four-wheel drive vehicles may be required in the winter months." which kind of sold it to me.

So, any recommendations for things to do, places to see, would be greatly appreciated. I don't imagine I'll be able to explore too much in the Defender but any nice scenic, most do routes? TIA James

It sounds like one of the wild camping 'sites' they make available in Kielder?

plenty of stuff to do around that area depending on how far you want to drive and if your looking for museum / garden type visits or simply nice scenery ??

Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle (in fact lots of stuff down the coast line) or Cragside House at Rothbury further inland, various sites along Hadrians Wall, further south you have Beamish Open Air Museum to name a few.........

Camelman, its February so we've gone for a off-grid cottage with a log burner! Kidlandlee.

I suspect we'll mostly be exploring out the front door but do like the idea of Bamburgh or Alnwick Castle. Thanks 90 Dreamer

Thanks Greeni, I was trying to remember who it was, I'll mssg Hairy Dan @defender_v8, it would be rude going all that way and not exploring a few tracks.

All the beaches are pretty much awesome, you really can’t go wrong. Head over to Craster for a beach walk and lunch at the jolly fisherman. Crab soup followed by pretty much anything on the menu. Cracking!

The river coquet is pretty special. There are some great walks on various sections of it.

Northumberland really is spectacular. Loads to do any time of year.
If you fancy a meet (socially distanced of course) I'll grab a few members of a local group and we can hit some trails.

I like the sound of your choice of campsite James. Do you mind sharing the name so I can look it up please?

If you have a look at viewranger there are quite a lot of legal rural greenlaning routes in and around Northumberland. 'Ve done most and take the difficulty level with a pinch of salt. Depends on the weather really.

There is a lovely rental near harbottle. I hope you have that as it's lovely and dog friendly.

I guess no-one got to get out into Northumberland due to the lockdown.
Some fools went to the lakes had to be rescued by mountain rescue and one of the team suffered life changing injuries during the rescue. The two people (rescuees) got £200 fines and I hope a huge dose of guilt.

Spent the best years of my youth living on a farm just outside Craster.so im a little biased,but the view of Dunstanburgh castle
from the coast at dusk is one of the best views in this British isles. I personally would visit Holy island and the wonderful Budle bay,Bamburgh ,Low Newton by the sea ,,Dunstanburgh castle, Craster,,Alnmouth,Walkworth castle and amble. And if your into potter or gardens Alnwick is a must.inland the kielder forest ,the moors and the Ingram valley are all treats but beware its bloody cold and wet in February.....ooops i thought you meant next February

so i guess it was cancelled by bleedin covid!

IM afraid the cats out of the bag with Harry Potter and Vera .......many working class people have been priced out of homes in their communities sadly.
