United Kingdom 2004 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Epsom Green
Insurance and Thatcham Cat 1 Alarms
Hey all,

I started this post on the Td5 forum, but decided to move it here as it might be more appropriate!

Having done a bit of digging around, pre-2007 Defenders comes factory fitted with the Land Rover Security System+, with the Thatcham number TC1 - 189/0695. However, this system has been "deleted" from Thatcham on 30 Apr 1998! [1]

My Defender is from the year 2004, the Thatcham listing is from 2005.
So does this mean my Defender has a Thatcham Category 1 alarm+immobiliser or not?

The insurance schedule has this paragraph:
Quote:
We will not provide any cover under ... the policy (i.e. any claim for loss or damage by theft or attempted theft of the insured vehicle) unless we have proof that it is fitted with a factory fitted Thatcham Category 1 immobiliser or it has a Thatcham Category 1 immobiliser fitted by an insurer approved installer and that the immobiliser is on and working whenever the insured vehicle is left.

I'm just trying to figure out if I'm covered for theft?

What do you think? Have you been in a similar situation?

If you aren't sure then I would get someone to have a look for you. Certainly what I have on my (very new to me) 02 plate would not meet this standard. If you think it is Cat1 factory fit then have a conversation with your insurer, if it's not good enough due to not being on the thatcham list anymore you need to know and get one fitted.

Aye, that's what I did in the end. After laying on the facts, they agreed to remove that particular endorsement from the policy.

Sure pays to read the fine print!
