Tentbox Classic - Expedition Roofrack installation
Hi everyone - I have a Defender 90 with an Expedition Roofrack. After a bit to much to drink I bought myself a Tentbox Classic (hard-shell tent) for camping but on closer inspection I now realise that the Expedition roofrack is not compatible with the tent (due to the different heights at the back and the front of the rack.

Any ideas how to address this issue? Has anyone installed cross bars onto an expedition roof rack - if I could put a couple of those across the middle of the rack then it would be problem solved (I think).

Thanks in advance for any help - I'm not great on cars but love my Defender!

sell the rack and buy a flatdog / patriot style one, you can fabricate cross bars for the exped. rack but your tent will be 8 inches higher than it needs to be....

I did that on the 130 that had a brownchurch rack.

Thank you - expected that might be the best solution, just not that experienced on where to sell / how to remove something like the rack. Thanks again

As Camelman says, sell the rack. Unless you particularly need a rack for other purposes though, I'd advocate roof bars for your tent as they'll be lighter and cheaper. Darren

Thank you - yes, I do use the rack quite a bit (wife has horses etc) so would need one if we did swap them.

Is the argument against the crossbar solution just that it'll look a bit crap / messy - or is it also that it'll be a bit unstable? Ie because it is a rack on top of a rack, or is that not a problem?

Thanks again both!

A bit of both, really. There's no off-the-shelf solution so you'd have make some crossbars fit and then, as already mentioned, it becomes a lot higher than you'd typically have a roof tent. Darren
