Click image to enlarge Hi can anyone help tell me what is causing this quite bad oil leak please. it appears to be coming from a short far pipe just above the front axle/diff, sort of next to the starter motor (I think it is that). Hopefully this photo will show it clearly enough. It’s not the thinner longer pipe on the left, it’s the short one on the right and you can see the oil wet all over the crinkly pipe. I can send more pics but I think it is clear if you expand this one. It leaves a bad mess on the drive every day. The engine oil level stays on the max line. 80k miles on a td5. Thanks. |

Thanks David, that’s helpful, I hadn’t thought it might just be diesel. I’ll catch some in a tub overnight and give it the sniff test. I’ve expanded the pic and circled the pipe, looks like a breather of some kind.

...just to conclude this post, collected oil and no diesel smell, definitely gear oil of some sort. Now had it on ramp and there was a pin hole in the front diff casing. Sorted now and caught in time. Thanks for the input everyone.
