Hi all,
My turbo (300 tdi) is making a groaning, cow like moo-ing sound from appx 0.5 bar all the way up to 1.0 bar of boost pressure. It gets progressively louder. Up to 0.5 bar it is just a pleasant turbo whistle. What could this be? Waste gate seems to be working as it is not over pressuring, I've replaced all turbo hoses and clips, a little bit of play on the cartridge but not shockingly much, flushed the intercooler, contained some oil, but I think that was coming from the breather as there was also oil on the inlet port of the turbo (breather replaced as well) . EGR has been removed years ago. Waste gate actuator pipe seems ok too. Questions: Is the waste gate actually starting to open at .5 bar? If not, that probably rules out the waste gate / flap in the exhaust. Leaves me with 2 options: inlet manifold gasket or turbo knackered after all? Any other suggestions and where should I start? Cheers! R. |

Might be a delaminated pipe.

Well, I think I found it. Pulled the turbo off, took a good look at the vanes:
Click image to enlarge Now I'm no expert but oil coted half-worn vanes don't seem right to me |
