I am looking for a mount bracket to mount a laptop into the Puma passenger area. I want to use it with my Garman GPS when I'm in the middle of nowhere and track maps don't work. The only sugestions in Australia is Ram. Any help would be great.

What sort of mount are you looking at..... is it just to hold your laptop still, or is it for docking purpose? What laptop do you have?
I am currently installing my CF-19 into my Defender through a dock(so no need to plug power/ antenna/ peripherals in every time. Some of the mounts I am looking at also have a locking mechanism so can be left without risk of the Laptop going walkies whilst you go pay for fuel etc (I would still remove it if I were to leave the Defender unattended. Oh, and most of the good ones are shock absorbing too so will help on rough/ corrugated tracks Glyn |

The size of any mounting system depends on the weight of the device being held.
The 1" balls will hold about 1-2 kg 1.5" ball up to about 4kg Then there is 2.25" ball. Can not remember the weight limit there. If you are going over very rough terrain consider the next size of ball mount up. For our tough book we use the 2.25" system. For our iPad the 1" flex mount. Just remember that whereas the device maybe locked into a frame the whole mounting system is not locked. The ball joints are fasten with a large thumbscrew/wingnut affair. Yes there is a special spanner to tighten them. So the locking device mount will slow down/put off opportunist thief it does not make it thief proof. We will have some Ram Mounts on display at the Peterborough LRO show. Brendan |

Its only a little acer aspire one, I doubt it would way much more than a couple of pounds in weight. I just want to hook my gps hand held to it in areas where no tracks are marked. I have Aus topo fitted to my garman but last trip up north it was useless, couldn't find a major track let alone some we were on.

RAM mount is a great company and is worldwide.
Other ones I have seen: http://www.ruggedcomputing.co.uk/product/vehicle_laptop_mount/ http://www.gamberjohnson.com/ - awesome products (but hold onto you wallet when asking for a price- they wanted £1,000 for the interface I specified!!!) I hope this helps. Other options are to head towards ebay- some are cheap and nasty, some do the job. Glyn |
