United Kingdom 2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 CSW Indus Silver
Terrafirma ceramic impregnated front pads
Hi Guys, its been a good while since I posted anything on the Puma but have decided to give you all a review on the front brake upgrade.

The brakes on what seems all Defenders are not what you call brilliant but after my old girl had been sitting on the drive for an extended period due to lockdown i was finally pleased to get behind the wheel again for an exciting trip to Tesco having being deprived of driving the old girl recently, all seemed normal until I had to brake for the traffic lights, after applying the brakes I quickly decended into sheer panic and needed a change of underwear as the old girl decided that she did not fancy stopping at that particular time and went right through the lights.

After nursing the old girl home I decided to take a good look, yep calipers had seized as I had thought, there was a rusty pie crust around each piston that would have shamed the Hairy Bikers, so i went straight on the blower and ordered a complete set of calipers, drilled and grooved rotors and some of the latest terrafirma ceramic impregnated pads for good measure for a trial.

With the rebuild complete and the new pads fitted I followed the usual pad break in procedure and gave them a bit longer to ensure they were well bedded in and were given a fair crack of the whip, sadly i advise that the Terrafirma pads have not lived up to my expectations, they seem fine up to speeds of 30 mph but any higher they do not inspire any confidence and have not improved with time or distance, with much dissapointment i have decided to return to the Mintex, so sorry Terrafirma but the ceramic pads are heading for the bin.

Hope this helps other when deciding possibly to change to a different pad material construction

Regards

Ole Dave
