Thinnest 36 spline quick release steering wheel boss
Im after a quick release boss and a new wheel for my car as mine is a bit worn and i'd like the extra layer of security having a removable wheel.

Ive done a quick search on here and found info about an fcx boss and a twisted one which everyone said are the thinnest however i think these products may have been discontinued as i cannot find either. Sad

Any help out there?

I have the SnapOff Mechanism from (X D2N Site Supporter) FCX...

It is 27.6mm thick, (Swedish Made), I have now done over 15K Miles with it fitted and have attached / unattached it countless times (certainly hundreds) and it's faultless, really well made, tapered hardened pins...effectively zero movement (play) when engauged...absolutely one of my best mod's... (if not the first I do, if I started again).

You are right, they look to be somewhat 'illusive' in the UK now.

Just to add this is the Quick Release Mechanism...that attaches to a Boss that is either 36 or 48 Spline

Or there is the Optimill version which doesn't need a seperate boss, you just buy the correct one for the number of splines you have and bolt your choice of MOMO or similar wheel to it.

There is talk of an adaptor for the Startech and similar wheels which have a different PCD on the bolt holes if that is what you want.

This is my Optimill boss with MOMO Tuner.

This combination puts the rim of the steering wheel in about the same position distance wise from the indicator stalk etc as the original wheel. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I have a Optimill and I found it perfect fit for my 90 also I have the cone fitted, quick to remove and refit.Here's mine with a Momo 78

The smaller 350mm wheel give a bit more room in the cab and a sportier feel

I do need help with the yellow trim I'm just not to sure on one hand it brightens up a very dark dash on the other it does look like a tarts car Rolling with laughter

Ive got my momo tuner wheel and im just waiting for my boss to arrive but unfortunately they had none in stock. Hopefully it will arrive next week! Can you change the optimill logo in the middle for a land rover one with one of the retrofit momo horn buttons or is it fixed/different size?

I could not change mine so I stuck the Momo centre cap on with double sided tape ,looks all right can't think any other way.

A quick tip no matter what boss you use.
Gently bend the stalks towards the steering wheel, a little at a time and even small hands will be able to reach the controls while still holding the steering wheel. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Best to use a flat ring spanner ,slide the ring part of the spanner over the controls to the tube part half way down just start slowly bending by pulling the spanner towards you, hold the stalk at the steering column end and you get a nice clean bend ,Remember slow and keep checking ! unbending is hard Big Cry

I thought I would have to do this, but no problems reaching them using the Optimill boss on my 90.
