I was wondering how long others can use their canvas tilt on the Defender.
Was cleaning the tilt to it up back for the summer when I discovered the seams are ripping apart. Bought the tilt from All Wheel Trim back in October 2018. I expected to be able to use it at least for 5 years, but I might have been unrealistic about it? Click image to enlarge |

I have a tilt for my 80" which is now at least 60 years old, and is still usable. It has had a few repairs, but is essentially sound. The tilt on my 86" is about 25 years old and is still fine (this was from Undercover Covers, as I recall).
I'd be extremely wrathy if a tilt only lasted 5 years! |

60!
Mine is just over 2 years old, well maintained and has been stored in house during last winter! |

My S2a has just had a new 3/4 tilt.
Previous one was fitted in 2007, so lasted 13 years. It was Exmoor Trim. Previous to that it had its original military item from 1966 as far I was aware. There is a note on Exmoor trim instructions that modern methods are not as enduring as older hoods, but much more environmentally friendly. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |

The first tilt I bought for my 90 was from In Stitches 2 (no-longer trading) and by 2-years old had shrunk to unusable proportions.
The next one came from Undercover Covers and was still usable when I sold it on 15-years later. My current one is from All Wheel Trim, been on nearly 4-years now and is still in perfect condition. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

I didn't say that my 60-y-o tilt is pristine, it has patina in abundance, but it hasn't rotted and it keeps most of the water out. Many years ago I did stitch a new rear window in (that was hard work!), and it has a couple of small patches. On the whole it looks better than a new tilt, it radiates history!

The exmoor trim hoods I've had are toasted after 4years or so. I'm waiting for a undercover covers hood to be finished for me. Heard nothing but praise for them.
