Has anyone used this TD5, Auxillary Heater Fuel Standpipe instead of dropping the tank and hooking into the fuel source that way for a Webasto? This looks like it would be a lot easier. BUT we know what usually happens when one takes the easier route....

To be honest this is the easiest and safest way of getting fuel to the heater - simple cut into the filler hose, x2 jubilee clips and away you go.
No chance of leaks and air in the system and it runs from the main tank so you see how much fuel you are using. I have fitted 2 now and have had no problem with either. ditto, i have a standpipe type. make sure to use some good quality clips as they will be covered in filth after 0.02 seconds of driving.

When I fitted my Webasto I found there was a blanked off pipe from the new fuel tank on passenger side which made it very easy. No idea what it was supposed to be for originally.

Does the fill pipe stand pipe come with fitting instructions?
How far down do you cut the rubber fill hose? Right in the middle? Ive ordered one to finally finish installing my Webasto. The cold snap here over the last week finally made me order it up and i didnt feel like dropping the tank for the webasto install kit. Patrick |

From memory - I think that I removed the filler hose, then looked at how the angel of the scavenger lined up with the hose then cut it at the most logical position, then fitted the hose round the scavenger and loosely tighten up the fittings before feeding it all back in again ... remembering that the pipe needs to reach the fuel to work !
You will need a sharp knife (very sharp knife!) to make the cut clean, and some wiggling to put it all back together - a tip is to draw a line down the side of the hose before you cut then you will know how it is supposed to fit when it goes back together. hope that helps ! I dropped the tank and fitted original pickup pipe, well fitted two actually, Airtop and thermo top. Only took couple of hours on 110, 90 tanks seem harder to get back in. Cheers

I fit one of these too. Works great. When fuel level gets to just above red the heater runs out of fuel so doesn’t leave you empty

AFAIK the 110 fuel filler pipe has always been one size and the fuel filler pick up pipe works.
90 fuel tanks have used a 50 and a 60mm fuel filler pipe . TD5 and early TDCi used the 50mm fuel pipe up to VIN 8A and from VIN 8A the larger 60 mm pipe. Brendan |

John (aka FridgeFreezer) on LR4x4 has an very nifty idea on his ambulance. He's spliced a swirl pot into the return line from the engine. The feed for the heater comes from the bottom of the pot. It's been sized to allow about 24h runtime and just bolted to the inside of the chassis.
The big benefit is he didn't need to worry about messing around with the fuel tank, no risk of running the tank dry if you get the height wrong and don't need to worry about refilling the tank because its automatically filled when the engine is running.
