Hello David!
1. UAZ and Land Rover Defender cars are close to each other in spirit, because they were created for the army and the village. Both cars are austere and have outstanding off-road performance and capabilities. In Russia, there are adherents of both, but of course there are more UAZ cars, because they are much cheaper in maintenance than Land Rover cars. The UAZ plant also produces more modern models, but they are based on the design of the 50s. Click image to enlarge More information about UAZ cars can be found in Wikipedia:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UAZ You can get an idea of the off-road abilities of UAZ and Land Rover Defender cars by watching this video: And this: And you can also find many other similar videos on YouTube on the request of "UAZ off road". 2. Since 1989, Moscow has changed beyond recognition. At that time, this city was dirty and shabby. Since then, much has changed - the city has been transformed, has become clean and comfortable. However, a huge problem in Moscow is traffic jams, since the pace of construction of new roads and interchanges simply could not keep up with the rapidly increasing car fleet in recent years. You can get some idea of Moscow in 1989 by looking at the photos: https://varlamov.ru/1210776.html For example, Lubyanka Square (KGB building) in 1989: Click image to enlarge And the same place today (the KGB is now called the Federal Security Service ): Click image to enlarge "Moscow-City" business district (the office of Infralex Law Firm, where I work, is located here): Click image to enlarge Nikol'skaya street: Click image to enlarge In general, after the opening of the borders - welcome to Moscow! Looks like work is well underway. Fresh paint. Are you keeping the car black?
You have some great places to go off road I imagine. The TD5 bonnet has always looked so good to me. Any modifications planned? |

Welcome to D2N. Nice to see the love for Defenders spreads to Russia. I was lucky enough to go to a wedding in St Petersburg a few years ago and only saw 1 Defender, lots of G Wagons. Great city really enjoyed the visit.
Nice to see the 90 is being well looked after! Thanks! Yes, I plan to paint it in the color of Santorini Black. There are a lot of places for off-road rides in Russia, but this kind of recreation does not appeal to me too much, so I plan to give the Defender the look of an urban SUV! Like this: Click image to enlarge Therefore, I do not plan to improve the off-road characteristics of the car, but I plan to slightly change the external characteristics for the better (in particular, 18-diameter Sawtooth wheels) and speed (remaping TD5 engine). “A word of command has made these silent figures our enemies; a word of command might transform them into our friends. Thanks! Land Rover Defenders are popular in Russia. As a rule, people use them to travel through the wild corners of Russia, where the car requires endurance and good cross-country ability. Some people like the simple style of this car and they use it constantly as a single car. Looking at the number of registered cars in the Russian automotive social network Drive2 (https://www.drive2.com/cars/landrover/defender/g589/), you can appreciate the level of love our people have for this car. I also love St. Petersburg! The last time we were there was two years ago in May, when I with my wife and our dogs went on a short trip to explore the ancient castles and fortresses of the St. Petersburg region by our second car - Cadillac Escalade. Hello, friends!
Work to restore the Defender continues. During the disassembly process, it turned out that some body parts, all the window and door seals, as well as the glass guides of the front doors, are subject to replacement. A used roof was purchased: Click image to enlarge Due to the huge shortage of whole used wings, new front and side parts of the left wing were purchased. The radiator on the car was damaged, so a new one was purchased. Click image to enlarge Old fender side panel removed from car: Click image to enlarge Used wing extenders are also difficult to find, but I managed. Click image to enlarge New original seals and guides (find the cat in the photo ) ): Click image to enlarge A number of new hardware was purchased to replace the damaged ones: Click image to enlarge The sills and bumper were damaged, so they were purchased used but in excellent condition: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The wings are painted in the color Santorini black: Click image to enlarge Small parts, sills, bumper and fenders were sandblasted before painting: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Used front tie rod protection was purchased. I like how Defenders look with the protection installed Click image to enlarge New BFGOODRICH 265/65/18 tires and Britpart Sawtooth wheels were purchased: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Instead of the old front headlights from another car, new original headlights were purchased: Click image to enlarge On May 9 (this day is a public holiday in Russia in honor of the victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945), I received the last new original guide for glass.
