I use a virtual machine (parallels desktop) on my mac to run Windows 10 - there are other free VMs, Virtualbox I have used for testing.

Wine is soo old which in this case is good In theory it should perform better than a virtual machine.
If you can get wine-specific support on the nanocom forum I'd go for it. But VMware, virtualbox and Parallels should all be ok, too. I have used them all on the Mac to run Windows and other OSs. Don't worry about installing any of these programs. They're all just applications like any others you're using. What sets them apart is that you can install a Windows OS "inside" of them. You'll then use Windows inside a macOS window. Wine etc. are "translating" between Windows and the macOS, so e.g. Windows will get key press commands from your keyboard and can talk to your Mac's USB. Simple example is copy-paste on the Mac is command-c/-v while Windows needs control-c-/v. So the Mac command key is translated to Windows control key. Of course it's much more complicated than that, but who cares if it works |

Should work ok. Apple have a tutorial online.
I have used bootcamp - the biggest problem was the time it took to download and install Windows. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/boot-camp |

Excellent, Thanks, it’s good to know that there is actually some support for running the programme, especially in my case.
I will have a read / watch of the link this afternoon and hopefully it will make some sense to me. |

Yes, buy yourself a used Win7 or XP and don't use it online - or - feel free to use your friend's Windows computer Download everything you need on your Mac and put in on a USB stick Innsert the stick and the Nanocom USB male or SdCard??? Into the Windows computer of your choice (see line 1) Perform the required routines (see Blackbox) - the computer may be offline (no protection required) You could also rent / run any virtual Win10 desktop on your Mac via the internet. But I believe, this is beyond your skills ... |

Yep, your right this is beyond my ability, I am now thinking that I might have to put this on the back burner
Until I can take this to someone and have them do this for me. I am a aware that this sounds somewhat pathetic but I can pretty much do anything else around vehicles and the household but this ever increasing dependence on computers / technology etc fills me with dread. |

I can understand your apprehension. It sounds more scary than it is though.
If you have a Nanocom it seems a shame not to utilise it fully. You could pick up a new Windows laptop for under £200 at Currys, or look around for a cheap second hand one. Even cheaper is to ask a friend who uses Windows, or has an unused old laptop. |

*smiley mode on* You could loose some of those friends if you'll require lots of support on how to use and maintain Windows, though Years ago my brother-in-law kept calling me with every little problem he had with his PC. Unfortunatly it's not so easy to get rid of your brother-in-law (what with sister getting angry etc), so I told him to get a Mac. Have never heard of him since. *smiley mode off* |
