footloose (uk distributor) don't have it on their website, and because i am not seriously in the market for it i don't want to waste their time getting cost details.

i would be interesting how it compared to a dorma conversion (not appealing to me) or a rack and roof tent.
i do see that you can still have a roof rack fitted with the conversion, always handy

The father and son team who run Wiberg wiberg are a nice pair of guys. I first saw the pop up roof in Denmark or Norway several years ago. It was fully kitted out with sink etc. Yes the gas strut works fine. However I did think things like the sink were rather small and low down. I might have a photo somewhere

Safari Equip used to make a pop up roof conversion. Am not sure if they still do. Might be worth a phone call 01274 835500 speak to Tom or Adrian.

The Dormobile conversion is a fibreglass affair with 2 large roof-lights in and canvas sides.
It does give room for 2 bunks up in the roof area and 2 beds in the vehicle and lots of standing room, but as said above, the roof cant take a rack.
However the raised part only starts from behind the cab area so a small rack over the cab is fitted to most Dormobiles.
hope that helps! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold

Called in at Safari equip.

Yes they still do their pop up roof

Their roof is made from 3mm aluminium with ribbed supports and 30mm insulation. Apparently the roof is strong enough to stand on/use as a viewing platform/carry equipment on.

Different strengths of gas struts are available dependent on how much weight is to be carried up top.

Cost are £5295.00 + Vat Fitting £975.00 + Vat

Hi Brendan and Wyvern,

the preference for the Wiberg one is that it is discrete when not in use compare to the perminant upstand on the safari equip or the foley lift up roofs!

always loved carawagons when i was a fledgling land rover nut in 1990; probably why i'm hankering for an adventure vehicle now

Ventilation is a big factor with these conversions as it can get so hot inside. The Dormobile has good ventilation but the beds can be narrow and uncomfortable for the larger gent apparently!

I came that ][ close to buying a genune Series 2 Carawagon two or three weeks ago. Complete with all original fixures and fittings (including pots and pans), fold out double bed and two pull out bunks in the roof. I regret not buying it now and also regret selling the 130 I converted into a four sleeper a few years ago too. Steve.

If I were to contemplate another one I'd again base it on an ex mil 130 ambulance, their box bodies are built to a much higher standard than anything Land Rover ever churned out. Steve.
