Hi there,
I am looking at replacing my rusted masai tubular side steps with a set of stainless 3 inch ones by britpart. Anyone use these? Any issues..I'm assuming the stainless doesn't rust.. ๐ Cheers folks John 2006 TD5 2002 Honda Transalp 650 1995 Yamaha Vmax 1200 2014 Nissan Juke (wifes) |

Potentially interesting thread as various forum members (including me) were considering the (Zinc Coated) Masai Side Steps to avoid them rusting through like OEM steps, it would appear they do much the same...rust! Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains |

Sadly both side steps are rusted at the rear wheel area, I suspect from debris and the Masai roof rack has also started to rust at several points... that will need to be redone also.
Going to see what my local powder coaters think about the rust damage on the steps before I consider replacements. Thanks for the picture of the fitted stainless ones iggle piggle. 2006 TD5 2002 Honda Transalp 650 1995 Yamaha Vmax 1200 2014 Nissan Juke (wifes) |

Fitted a pair of these a few years ago still look as good as new and not one speck of rust.
fitted these for the same reason as you got fed up with side steps rusting and looking sh*t. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

If they are the ones you are asking about I was going to say the same as Gilarion, They have lasted really well, no rust or blemish to the shine, I have actually painted them black now & much prefer them than the chrome Click image to enlarge |

Just for interest,
I removed the masai side steps today and on closer examination ( the amount of rust inside) it looks like the plastic end caps have been allowing water to ingress. I think a coat of silicone would have stopped this.... I am taking them to my powder coater for assessment to see if they can be repaired tomorrow as the rust is quite deep at the ends. I'm looking for a decent replacement of the xs style ones I've got. I found these steps too slippy, preferred ones with a lower step.

If you want steps that actually work as steps then fit individual ones. Lower, wider and do the job much better:
