New PHEV / EV models?
Morning all,

I would love a new Defender, ideally a full EV, or failing that a 90 PHEV. I can imagine packaging problems preventing a 90 PHEV, but I would be surprised if the manufacturer of the i-Pace didn’t fancy gussying up the powertrain into a premium LR model.

All I’ve found online is the original launch schedule (Bon Jovi through this linky), which doesn’t give much hope, and a throwaway mention of a premium ‘fourth model’ EV in https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-£25k-land-rover-be-followed-luxo-defender.

I can well understand LR playing its cards close to its chest, but does anyone have any insight into what’s likely?

Thanks all

Not aware of any Land Rover full BEV plans other than the Road Rover (which I think may be sort of Velar sized but lower), but been very quiet on that front for months. Also unknown when the Jaguar XJ electric will appear, if ever. The shape and weight of the defender suggests little chance of full EV - whack in a load of batteries and you’re potentially getting close to 3 tonnes

Annoyingly the electric range isn’t good enough on the phev defender (or Range Rover or Range Rover Sport) to consider sticking through my company. Have an ipace at the moment

Once the models start to switch over to the MLA platform we will see more EV models available. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

I hope that JLR haven’t missed the boat with this as Tesla is rumoured to be going to start selling a new compact sub Model 3 sized hatchback model in the next 18-24 months (Elon Time) aimed squarely at the European markets and that will be a hard car for JLR and many other European makers to compete against if the popularity of other Tesla’s is anything to go by (despite their poor ratings for reliability)

2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

They won't go anywhere near the 'Model 2' market - top end of Model 3 market is as low as they'll go Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

An EV JLR product would get my money long before a Tesla and it’s poor dealer network. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Wow, thanks all for sharing. Disappointingly slow, I think, but at least I have my answer.

Take care
