So the chassis has now had a new rear cross member fitted, been blasted and is ready for painting
The cross member was 'ok' but not 100% perfect so we decided to do it while it was all stripped down. The later lightweights had extra strengthening diagonal braces on to the cross member so these have had to be reconstructed as the after market cross members don't have them. I've also managed to get hold of a very elusive multi pintle tow hitch which was used when they were towing the hawks around. It's the only one I've seen in the 3 years i've been looking for one! That's also being refurbed before fitting. Yep, from 1985 to 1994 the Red Arrows had 2 lightweights, the one in the photo above (05KD07) was a left hooker hardtop without windows. I believe it was exported when it came out of service.
Would be great to have the pair |

Was the multi height pintle simply to accomodate differing trailers or some other reason??

The hitch is used for aircraft maneuvering. I've seen them fitted to dedicated aircraft tugs.
