Stiffen up Door Hinge/Stay
Anyone any advice on how to stiffen up the door stays on a Puma so that they will stay open but still close easily. Managed it on the back door by putting a Nylon washer on the Door Stay hinge bolt. Now I don't have to open it each time when packing/unpacking the car. However cannot use the same trick on the front. On my last few cars the doors would stay ajar when opened to a certain point but not the Defender. Whistle Whistle

Hi Mike,
Which bolts are you referring to, the hinges or the Stay rod that slides in a channel under the dash?

it was the stay bolts you can just see it to tighten on the front doors...you will see it move when you open the door Mike

I eventually removed the bolts and added some split washers as I was getting tired or always tightening them.

as regards the rear door, mine wouldn`t stay open just pulled bottom left of cover away (dont need to take cover right off) and retightened door stay which is a little arm that locks into the stay as it slides, common problem them coming loose, 2x 10mm nuts, had no probs with front so cant help LIFE`S TOO SHORT TO DRIVE A BORING VEHICLE

Front door stays are held to door bracket by a Pin and cotter pin.No way of tightening so removed pin and replaced with Bolt+nylon washer+nyloc nut. Now just enough resistance to hold door open but still shut easily. SWMBO will be happy, always moaning about having to hold door open when getting in. Thanks ALL Bow down Bow down

Here goes my first post!! Just tightened the rear cargo door and front left today. Both needed tightening as stated in the prior replies. But here is the dig on the cargo door. The pin that clicks into place and holds the door open pushes on the top left corner with some degree of force. It pushes against an under-engineered 'tab' of metal that bends under the weight. So once you tighten the nuts, in some cases the door still does not stay open safely. I bent the offending 'tab' forwards again and then wedged something solid behind it. It is a 3mm x 4mm x whatever length spacer of anything solid. Did the trick. Now the door pin pushes against its 'tab' that is supported with something solid from behind and the door now stays open for the first time since I bought it! I'd taken it back to LR in Sydney and they had said 'performs same as all others', and 'cannot fix'. So I popped off the plastic on the back door (after removing the u-shaped handle) and fixed it in a few minutes. Happy days!
