Hi to all the peeps that have 18” rims on there cars.
I have a set of 18” going on soon and trying to decide on tyre size 265/65r18 or 285/60r18 Now the issue I have is my garage where the defender is parked has a garage door that I clear by about 1-2cm at present. On 7.5r16 tyres on the 5.5 std rims. So asking if you have 18” can i ask you to put a straight edge on the top of the tyre and measure from this to the floor. Then note the tyre type here and the measurement. I am leaning towards ko2’s but if they are actually a lot bigger than there stated size I won’t be able to get the defender into the garage. So may have to look at continentales or something else. Thanks in advance. That’s there advertised diameter from the actual size but when on the vehicle and weight on them I doubt they will be 800mm high. That’s the measurement I need if possible. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Well the new rims are 9” wide, from a pressure point of view I at present have no idea what pressure these should run at, but that also valuable information to have, what do you guys run as pressure on these 18” Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Measured my existing 7.5r16 today spare wheel looked like 80cm, but front and rear were 75/76 respectively, also looking at other web pages they say bfgoodridge always are under size so maybe they will clear fine. Would like to get at least one measurement if possible before I take the plunge Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Please share your findings if you make any progress on this. I am in the same position with only 15mm clearance in the garage. My present Goodyear MTR 16 85/235 tires after 70,000km have 8mm less tread than the unused spare.
I'm looking to change to 18" but am reluctant to have lowered springs just for garage access. Did you use the 'tiresize' resource? Just wonder how accurate it is: https://tiresize.com/comparison/ |

Sure I’ll share looks like I am going to have to bite the bullet and just do it as not got any replies to height.
All the tyre comparison sites I look at tell me the unloaded weight non tell me the loaded. From looking at other forums the jeep guys complain a lot about the ko2’s being undersized as they want 33” or 35” but get a inch smaller etc. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Ok, I see the point. Even if the tyres on the website are same diameter, when inflated 18" may need more PSI than 16" - less bend in the sidewall, and in theory taller.
So yes, a real world measurement. But it would need to be a forum member with newly installed tyres for a helpful measurement. |

Also side wall stiffness affects it. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Ok, bit of information for you: On my 2011 Defender 90 2.4 I’ve got 9x18 twisted wheels with 265/65/18 BFG All-Terrain tyres. (That’s the older style BFG’s) Nearside front and back measures 785mm from top of tyre to ground and Offside front and back measures 780mm. Tyre pressures are set at 32psi all round. I have standard springs and shocks but I have fitted sprung isolators to the top and bottom of the springs. Guessing I’ve probably done about approximately 50,000 miles on these tyres. With about approximately 7-8mm of tyre thread left on them. Think the overall height of the Defender at the rear of the vehicle is about 1980 mm. I would think a 110 would be taller than this.? Click image to enlarge Don’t know if any of that helps? |

What tyre size are you going for then?
Seem to remember that when I had my 2007 110 XS CSW the total height of the vehicle was 2040 mm. |
