Glad I retired before technology took over. Pagers and mobile phones with 15 mins battery life were my only problems.

I once worked with an interim CEO and whenever she landed in a new business and was invited to attend meetings with more than a handful of people she would start by clarifying who there was a decision maker, who was a bag carrier, who was a professional meeting attendee etc. Only the decision makers stayed beyond the first 5 minutes.
It was effective. |

Feeling the same pain, made worse by having 0.3mb upload broadband speed, then every numpty on the call wants to be on video in order to be seen

Since COVID my days are filled with conference calls, normally back to back all day
yesterday was brutal and started at 08:00 and finished at 18:45 with only a 30 min break in the middle of the day. Mainly with legal and finance people - the joys of contract negotiation stages of a project ![]() luckily most of these were with less than 10 people so were sort of productive my issue is switching between the different platforms such as Skype, Zoom and Teams. I always struggle to work out how to share screens. I have just ordered another large monitor so that I can view 3 screens at once as flipping between apps at my age is a pain ![]() feel your pain totally. I've spent most of the last year now lecturing to classes of up to 35 via Teams or Webex, and have been involved in sessions with up to 200 people using Teams. It works but is not ideal, but is infinitely preferable to contracting Covid and dying.
I regularly have meeting of up to about 20, and find that provided that the meeting discipline is good they actually work well, sometimes better than face-to-face meetings with the same numbers. Being able to mute other participants' microhones is useful. There is no doubt however that the usual meeting rule of thumb, that productivity is inversely proportional to the number of participants, holds true. |

You need to get Jackie Weaver on the call. She'll speed it up a bit.

Project Management base rule... Quality... Cost... Time... Choose any two BC (Before Covid) I attended a meeting in Germany at a major manufacture where a development engineer placed on the table a 360degree digital read out clock/counter. Before the meeting stated the PM asked for the 'reality metre' to be passed around the table and for all of us to entre our hourly rates 'covertly' (in Euros). We were meeting for a day, to kick off a Project, the visual running clock and associated costs made its point. On subsequent meetings it was not uncommon for us to use meeting rooms where the tables were 1100mm high and there were no chairs in the rooms... this focused our attention on the agenda.
