Question about hand brake
Dear all,

I'm new here, and please excuse my english I'm French !

I'm the proud owner of a Td5 110 Defender,

I have a problem with my hand brake : when I try to put it down it actually refuses to get down until the end, one click remains. But the strangest part is that after one hour driving or so it is actually possible to put it down completely

What could be the problem and what should I do ?

With best regards,

Thomas

Potentially sounds like your handbrake cable is starting to seize up or your handbrake mechanism is sticking. The cable/mechanism probably frees up with the exhaust heat or from the shoes dragging if it is the drum itself.

I would remove the handbrake drum and have a good check of the mechanism, make sure springs are all present and even better clean it up and apply a small amount of copper slip where the shoes rest on the backplate.

Also check that there are no signs of damage to the cable and that it hasnt been bent excessively tightly where it is routed.

Salut Thomas
Retirez votre tambour de frein à main, il est peut-être plein de saleté.
