Defender 90 with centre seat option....

Question. Is there an airbag for the occupant of the optional front centre seat?

Asking for my neighbour who is going to order a 90, after seeing my 110. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

While I have the Jump seat, I do not plan to allow my daughter (or anyone for that matter) to use it when hurtling down a motorway at 70mph. but over here you are lucky to get to 40mph (average 25mph) I don't see an issue not having an airbag. Also when we eventually get off the rock and get to do some green laning having the family up front enjoying the ride will be worth the lack of elbow room you get with the jump seat.

As you are talking about the 90, I would not recommend that the seat be used on a regular basis, it is a bit cramped, and we are a small family.

A couple of other notes on the jump seat (in order of importance

):

Seat Belt - see my experience in Faults and Fixes https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic76700.html Still waiting to hear back.

Dash USB ports - they have kept the USB-C, USB-A and cigarette port, but have them flush. if you plan on using them they will get knocked and broken if someone is sat in the jump seat. Sadly CarPlay is the USB-A port at this location.

Fold Flat height - I like the way they kept the level of seat back the same as the door arm rest. this give a good left arm rest.

Cup holders - there are 2 cup holders but they are of different sizes!?. so one of them does not take any take away cups very well as too small. Maybe I drink too much coffee??

Seat Belt - No troubles at all on my car, perhaps your topic is a singular one? However, still serious for you of course.

USB - I'm using angled USB connector / micro USB-stick, no problems with a passenger on the jump seat this way.

Fold-Flat height - Yes!

Cup holders - Couldn't make it up neither why they are different size. Maybe Metric and Imperial coffee cup sizes?

Seat height - Too low for children as the upper seat belt will be much too high for them. And difficult to find a booster seat that fits the small width of the jump seat, but finally got one now. For teenagers seat belt height would be ok, but legroom and width will not fit, at least not in a comfortable way.

Seat position - The smile on the face of your children sitting right in front in the middle and directly reaching all the centre controls and touchscreen. Priceless! Be prepared for music changing constantly...

Airbag - Well, bad conscience is permant companion to be honest. However, I grew up in cars withoout seat belts, head rests, ABS, ESP, passive safety etc. Noticed myself to be a more cautious driver when the jump seat is occupied.

That's an interesting read.

I did smile when I read : “Making sure the key structure can take the extra load of that person was definitely a key challenge", and thought it meant the front centre dash will not break when head-butted by the front centre passenger.

And

"The lack of an individual airbag for the middle seat in the front row is unlikely to be an issue when it comes to Euro NCAP testing, as the independent body doesn’t crash test the vehicle with a dummy in that seat."

Does maybe flag an issue with tests like these, which may prescribe based on norms.
