After three months of ownership of a P300 110 I'm very pleased with the new car. The suspension engineers really need to be applauded for the outstanding job they have done with this car. It feels a lot better controlled than my previous LR3 (Discovery 3) and Discovery 5. I sold a friend of mine my Discovery 3 and bought a TDV6 D5 back in 2017 with the plan to trade it on the new Defender when it came out (in 2019 - that plan went slightly astray). In the three years and 36,000 miles I had the D5 I really grew to like it - it was a fabulous long distance road trip car, surprisingly capable off road, comfortable, quiet and economical. I never quite got used to the looks - particularly the rear end - but it grew on me and I would have no reservations about recommending it. I didn't like the rear hatch - much preferred the liftgate/tailgate combination of the Discovery 3/4 but it really was a great vehicle. The third row seats were actually usable and comfortable for full sized adults and the rear compartment was cavernous with the rear seats all folded down. The 130 should be very usable with the added length.
The 110 feels more utilitarian but is still a comfortable competent road car (the drivers seat isn't as comfortable as the D5 though). I love the rear door and am pleased with the power and the interior is fabulous. I still have a D90 and two Series IIA's for the true Land Rover "experience" and the new 110 is our every day car with the capability to go places I was reluctant to take the D5. I love my defender. Actually got to drive an old 110 recently, hands down the worst vehicle I've had the displeasure of driving period. Old one might be very capable off road but its just such a horrible thing to be in. As for the name, it is the new defender so just get over it. Who really cares what a few old timers think of the name anyway.

Having owned my defender for 6+ months I have to say that I do love it. It is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. When I use it long distance I get out without the usual need to stretch and without the tiredness. I think it looks fantastic, it swallows our family with room to spare. It is far more than capable for the driving I do (fields, farm tracks etc.) and did I mention I think it looks great!
My criticism is not directly with the car but more with JLR whom have released a car that is not quite ready. And reading through the forums I don't see it as a space to complain (in the most part) but one where people can understand if their car is representative of others. Also JLR need to be aware of the teething issues whilst making solutions available. If you look through the common themes there is a level of frustration with sub standard materials, changing engine line up (less than 6 months after general release), rattles and other noises. All of which add up to a slightly frustrated customer base. To summerise; great car, good forum for learning and sharing, JLR please take note and use this feedback for good. 2020 Defender 110 First Edition with a couple of factory options Previous LRs Discovery 5 (current now Wife's car) Evoque - Also Wife's (previous) Freelander (previous) 3 door RR V8 (Very Previous - but got me stated!  ) |

slightly off topic but is there anywhere to find info on what the 130 will be like?
I want to get rid of my D5 as its too small and this maybe the way to go Defender D250 HSE Dender 110 XS - sadly gone VW Polo VW Caravelle - Gen 6 |

There is a post on the forum with a sketch of one in the line up with a 90 and a 110. As far as could be seen it was a 110 with a longer overhang at the rear., even the wheelbase wasn’t changed from a 110’s just a longer body. Reading through this post has lifted my spirits considerably. Thank you chaps, it is good to see that the balance of these threads is tipping away from the "nay sayers".
There is nothing that has been said here by the "pro" New Defender crowd that I disagree with. I have had mine for 2 months. In the first week we drove it 3500 K's including about 250K's of serious off-roading, and most of that journey was towing an offroad camper. Verdict so far ?... It has suffered some of the well reported annoying software glitches, which JLR appear to be working through, and (on mine only) has a minor vibration noise that needs tracking down. Power is fine (and it's a D200 !) ....however the lag on the fly by wire accelerator is noticeable and reminds me of the D3 TDV6 lag, but that is the only real issue I have with it. (and as I ordered it prior to seeing any cars to test drive, that was my risk I guess) Is it a "real" DEFENDER ? You betcha. Will it affect D5 sales ? You betcha. Will it draw sales from the competitor's products, and build a new group of fans ?.... I really think it will. Already love it. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Oldmowgli
