The 'sit on' kayaks are what I have, I don't like the thought of being 'in' one

We have Dagger Blackwater 10.5.
Really good semi touerer - super stable but fairly fast, easy to bail out of, has a hurricane hatch for keeping kit dry, fairly cheap. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Nice Pic, 110SEB.
We were going to buy sit-on-top (SOT) but after trying a few ended up with Sea Kayaks because of touring capability, club activity and distance capability. It really depends what you want to do. We like long trips on the sea, enjoying wildlife, and finding some of the more remote areas of Scotland. Plan to do some more in Wales & Cornwall at some point (prob summer 2012). We joined a great club, and took some lessons in sea kayaking (i think anyone really should take some lessons - formal or informal - before heading out in the open ocean). The club's really active, with night/evening paddles - not only dusing summer, but winter as well. The club also does informal training in winter (including pool sessions for practicing rolls and rescues). They're organising a trip to Ailsa Craig & possibly even St Kilda in 2012. One of these days I'll volunteer to organise something for the kayak club, probably a Loch Nevis paddle... Our real preference is days out like my post on the previous page - we went out in Plockton a while back. The sea kayak is definitely the fastest way to travel, much more miles for your sweat (compared to SOT, canadian canoes etc)...the longer & narrower they are, the better they are for distance usage.
