Quick question regarding compression testing the 2.4 tdci:
Can I stop fuel flowing into the cylinders by just unplugging the injectors and allowing the high pressure fuel to just return to the tank via the fuel return line? Compression test will be done using glow plug hole (with others out). I'm sure I don't want the cylinder I am testing to fire and I don't want fuel flooding the others either...... or high pressure diesel spraying around full stop! If simply unplugging the electronics from the injectors doesn't work, what is the alternative process - remove aux belt and unplug and wires to/from the fuel pump? Happy with the rest of the compression test but was unsure about the fuel situation as internet and forum research returned results along the line of 'Do compression test' with no detail or 'remove the fuel solenoid' neither of which seem to be of much help. If the above meets common consensus it will at least provide an easy record for the future. |

Yes.
Recently I did exactly this but to be sure I disconnected the fuel pump feed to the fuel rail and piped it to the a bucket via a hosepipe however no fuel came through the hose. The ECU must sense that injectors are not connected and cut fuel? Not sure exactly how but none flowed. For info, once the everything was back together it started on the button...
