I asked my salesman recently and he said that they have no idea when it will be available to order. He said that they expect it to be towards the end of 2021 but they are just guessing as JLR won’t advise them until a few weeks prior to being able to configure it. This is because if they knew now that you could order one in September then they wouldn’t sell as many vehicles as people (me self included) would say well I’ll hold off on ordering until September. But as there is no confirmed date for the V8, I’ve ordered a P300 90 HSE for delivery in April and will wait and see what happens. Will just give me an excuse to change cars in 12/18months time 😂. Given the current climate JLR may decide to postpone or even cancel the project and we won’t get the V8 option. At this point nobody knows for sure.

Few questions come to mind re 5.0l V8:
What is this level of power and torque required for? What purpose will the vehicle be used for? I am genuinely interested as i'm not sure that if I needed to go really really fast or accelerate really quickly that I'd be in a defender at the time. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper |

Looking at the photos of the D300 Engine Bay - shoe horning a V8 in must be a challenge...

Probably a lot easier - two cylinders shorter, no turbos or MHEV paraphernalia.

People ask me this with my SVR but one of the kicks I get from a vehicle is from the engine can’t get excited about a 2 Ltr sorry the engine totally changes the feel of the car to me |

You cant top a V8 IMHO, i loved my early 90 with factory v8...unfortunately the world is changing and i fear electric is just going to be beyond boring, even if the acceleration is better Mike

I think hybrid is the way to go. If I could spec my defender with a 5.0V8 and a decent sized battery pack then that would be ideal. 80% of journeys would be done using battery power so nice and quiet, smooth, and good for the trees, then the remaining 20% would be with a glorious V8 soundtrack and non stop giggles. Best of both worlds IMO and surely the more practical way as the electric charging infrastructure just isn’t ready for full electric yet.

The defender is a large vehicle, so a V8 would be absolutely fine for me. When the 4 cylinder diesel in my current puma dies I will be seriously considering a v8 swap. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR
