They’ve been predicting the beast from the east returning since the last one left

Watched the weather forecast this morning max snow fall for east Scotland and along the east coast of England was 5cm, 2"
for us oldies . Next weekend minus 3 in some places and 5 cm of snow, which is not even close to the weather we had during the Beast from the East. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Yesterday afternoon the default iOS weather app for Basingstoke was showing snow next Wednesday, Thursday and the weekend. By evening it was all just sun/butt on those days.
As I write this message, it is showing a 40% chance next Monday and that's it through to the following Monday. I only had a BMW E46 on summer tyres when the BftE came. It took me 6 hours to get home from work which normally takes 30 minutes. Had to abandon my car in a retail park carpark 1 mile from home because all of Basingstoke turned into a carpark. Vowed to myself not to be stuck like that again so bought myself a 90 last summer and have been patiently waiting ever since for another BftE. 2003 90 TD5 Hardtop |

Both the Defender and Discovery will be going to fill up with fuel tomorrow morning just in case the Met Office have got it right for once. Our Five Villages First Responder team have me on their list of 4x4 vehicles to help out if needed. Defender 90XS SW

I had just taken delivery of my Velar, after getting rid of my Disco 5, when the beast hit. Was pleasantly surprised how well it handled the snow. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Has the Daily Express reported it yet? That’s a sure sign it’s not going to happen. 😉
However, the moss on the north side of my apple tree is pointing to the west, so I reckon that’s a sure sign it’s trying to escape from from the pending beast from the east! 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy |

I hope we get some decent snow. It’s snowing now actually. Wife’s car has gone brand new set of 4 Hankook Winter iCept RS2, 2nd set we’ve had and are just awesome in the white stuff. Way better than the the defender on ATs. Makes snow a pleasure to drive in. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

If/when Beast happens it will be interesting to see which of your Defenders becomes the "go too drive". I know that it's frowned upon but my go too vehicle around the Shropshire Hills (from a choice of - 2011 110XS, 2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 auto, 2011 Nissan X-Trail auto) is the X-Trail - decent HDC, low 1st. and electronic TC / ABS work best on ice / snow covered ice, even with road tyres. Deep snow then the Wrangler or Land Rover are as good as each other. Despite my reservations this could be where the "New Defender" with it's complicated/sophisticated/scary electronics excels. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. |

Since Christmas, the BBC weather app seems to have changed on a daily basis with its predictions for the next couple of weeks. It has swung between rain then clear and sunny constantly. It has been somewhat unpredictable.
I don't know why, but I find that the weather forecast on Countryfile on a Sunday night on BBC1 tends to be fairly accurate for the following weeks weather. It's mad, as it is the same information provider as the app, and the same provider and weather forecasters as the normal BBC forecasts, but it works for me. The only disappointment this year, if we do indeed get a blast of snow, there will be no excuse for a day off as I like many are working from home. All I need to do is dig my way down to the ManCave. |

Country file only look a week ahead which is far more accurate than trying to forecast 2 weeks. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Anything after that then we are in Mystic Meg territory
As has been said earlier, the Daily Express is a pastmaster at dome and gloom stories about most things including horror weather forecasts. They were probably the same people who reported that London would be 6ft deep in horse muck There is some truth in looking at the east side of the USA weather as our prevailing winds are mostly west and any bad weather they have, we will get similar weather a few days latter once the Gulf Stream has done its work. |

Sadly you'll have the same problem because the majority of motorists now are such wuckfits that they don't know when not to attempt to drive their Euroboxes and choke up the roads everywhere. It used to be fun owning a Landrover when it snowed, but now you are just as stuck as everyone esle due to the gridlock. On the rare occasions when you're not stuck through congestion, the same Eurobox drivers will act as though you have a moral duty to help them. I guess if you have the good fortune to live in a rural area where people are intelligent it may still be fun. |

Anyone remember 'Alas Smith and Jones'?
I loved their weather forecast: "Tonight, it will be dark". All I can offer is Joe the Plumber's elderly mum's "Country Lore", which is that there were an awful lot of berries on the holly and an awful lot of acorns on the oaks this autumn. And that normally means it's going to be a hard winter. Mind you, she's a middle class teacher originally from Birmingham, so hardly a bona fide "Ye Olde Country Yokel"! |
