A useful tip. Roofing Washers
Just something I figured might be useful in all sorts of applications on the Defender. When I had my wing off to replace the ABS pump I noticed that where the Safari Snorkel bolts to the wing there were the beginning of aluminium corrosion under the big stainless washers holding the snorkel on.

To try to stop this getting worse I replaced the standard washers with stainless roofing washers. These have a rubber layer bonded to one side which I think should insulate the washer from the wing and stop any more of dreaded white fuzz forming.

The washers can be got on all sorts of sizes off EBay. They won’t be useful in every application as they are slightly domed and would probably prevent accurate torquing where that’s important, but worth having in the armoury . 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

^^^^^ Yup. Once I realised what the issue was, I got several sizes of nylon washers - but I know what you mean about the roofing washers.

Another option is a tube of duralac - a 'yachtie' thing to separate steel fixings from aluminium structures - and no, I don't have a yacht! Donald
