The primer/paint hasn't bonded to the metal.
Even with an etch primer, you will struggle to get a paint to withstand the pressure of mechanically fixing something to it without proper curation times and a lot of luck. |

I left the primer for over the recommended 24 hours. Guess I’ll need to try again...And hope for more luck! |

I know that you've followed the process that I described when I did mine. I can only think it's either the paint itself or perhaps the temperature, as I did mine in the summer Darren

Did you scotchbrite and fully degrease the surface before etch priming?
I have no idea how good the primer and Simoniz paint you’re using are, but you’d also ideally need to leave them for 7-10 days to fully harden before fitting. Or buy the black HD ones from Bearmach 😉😉😉 |

did you use a spring washer, cap heads or bolts?
remember the paint will affect the mechanical torque, the best approach is to clean off or mask where the bolt head or washer will meet the drive member, if spraying just place washers where the bolt heads will be when fitted. effectively masking the fixing area DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Spring washers with cap head screws.
LRA - The temperature may play a part I guess. Think I’ll sand it all off, etch prime again and leave till I’m back at work Tuesday and can apply paint indoors in warmer atmosphere. Just done loads of work in the house, indoor spraying would NOT be appreciated! LR90XS - Great tip! Will do this too...thanks for the advice guys. |

The appearance in the photos suggests that the surface was not adequately degreased before paint, and as a result the etch primer hasn't etched and and the paint hasn't adhered.
There shouldn't be any particular problem painting a yellow passivated finish, one of the benefits of the passivation process is that it can help with paint adhesion provided that a suitable paint system is used. I would be looking closely at the preparation processes. |

If you can get away with it - i put small items after prep and painting and leaving for 24 hours nto the domestic oven at 50 -60 for an hour.
Cures the paint a treat. SWMBO is usually out during this period, but wonders about the odd smell when she gets back. |

Given I’m the chief cook and bottle washer when I’m not at work I’d probably get away with that! |
