Could be. Try pushing in the door switches and see if that sorts it.

I tried pushing in the drivers door switch, but no difference. I will leave him to it and try again when all the doors are back on. It's the only difference in how it was dropped in really. He hasn't even opened the bonnet. It is funny how it drove into the spray booth though?

A Defender will start with all the doors open, and should start with them removed.

For what it's worth, the sales Guy who sold me mine was a Defender driver himself. One of the last things he said to me was if the truck fails to start, blip the door open on the remote, and then try starting it and it should fire up. This will reset the immobiliser.
Now I don't know if that is true, and so far it has never been an issue in nearly six years, but it's worth a try? He also said that it would come with a full tank of fuel Don't worry, it is probably something really simple. |

Thanks for the replies folks. Aye, it did drive into the spray both okay signifying that it would indeed run without the doors. I will bring the nanocom and the spare set of keys with me and see what happens.

This is true, but the doors are incidental, it's the unlock signal from the fob to the 10AS unit that is disarming the active and passive immobilisers. It just happens to unlock the doors (if they're fitted) at the same time. |

I went to have a key cut for mine. The guy at timpson put the key in his little box and told me it had no responder in the key, so a new one can be made from a blank. This confused me as i have the ring around the barrel which would tell me otherwise.
Roll on a few months and the ignition was playing up, turned out to be the rear of the barrel where all the gubbins plug into. I ordered a new barrel and key set and fitted it all. Car wouldn't start on just the key, ie it was immobilised. The only way i could get it to start was to include the original key and fob on the same key ring. The orginal key and fob had to be within a few inch's of the ciruclar plastic thing that goes around the barrel. Have the seperated the key from the fob? Or am i talking |

We cycled the key fob lock/unlock more than once. I will try the spare set just in case. What are the outward signs that the immobiliser is not allowing the vehicle to start? I am no longer convinced it is the culprit. It was all I could think of with the door been off was the truck believed it was been stolen!

Does it have central locking? Perhaps the system is confused due to the lack of 'yes im closed and locked' signal going back to the alarm? 130's have feeling's as well you know

Sorry for the obvious question-
The interior light hasn’t flattened the battery? |

Turning the key and nothing happens, ie engine doesn't turn. |

NO, she was swinging over like a champion. It will start briefly if left for a few minutes, but does not start on the second attempt. It acted in this manner when I used the spare key after I just got it and realised I had no keyfob with me. I coded a second one with the nanocom and it has never failed to start since. I should mention that the roof is off so the interior lights aren't on. Kevin would not spray the roof in situ as the paint had kind of reacted (original finish) and was peeling off right into the seams. I will have a lovely shiny roof now but not be able to drive anywhere! Next plan is to try the spare key set after it is back together and after that plug in the nanocom and see if I have fuel pressure etc. There were some pre existing faults for the instrument cluster but they are on the ECU since I got it nearly 4 months ago. THey are on the list of jobs after I replace the front UJ. The paint was letting it down in places so when the space came up to have that work done I jumped at the chance. Kind of regretting it now!

Sounds like its immobilised - just a fire and then nothing - red light bottom of left dial lit up as well?
Mines got a combined key & fob from Avon in fact their first prototype one and I get the above if the immobiliser sets itself and I try and start the car. If I press the unlock button, the immobiliser unsets and will start. Their production keys had the above sorted out. HTH Keith |
