I doubt you'll find much difference on insurance between the two. I'm 19 going on 20 with a 57 plate 90 Whistle

My 2003 Jimny automatic did 24mpg and cost £420 a year to tax.. so it went. Good lamping tool, very quiet and cute.
I think Co-Co the clown runs a few in his circus act??? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Series 11A used to be £500 through the NFU. Many youngsters/students etc have them due to cheap insurance Thumbs Up

I don't think teenagers would be seen dead in a Jimny never mind a Series LR? They want Pugs and Vti's and milk churn exhausts.

Why on earth were you paying £420 per year to insure any car from 2003??

Didn't think the very high road tax affect cars unless they were registered after 23rd March 2006?

It was the road tax not the insurance... i took it up with the DVLA and they checked it out and the high price was due to the emmission rating... it ran like a Swiss watch but they set the scale of V.E.D. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Ah, sorry, I meant to type road tax - doh!

Just meant that I thought that maximum anyone would pay for a PLG vehicle that was first registered before March 2006 was about £240 (ish, or whatever the current cost is). Wasn't aware that it went upto the £400+rate for cars registered before then aswell - I'm still convinced thats not right! lol

Oh well, you learn, eh...... Mark

No, no mate, not at all.....it was your car after all, just really surprised, thats all. Just that I had an Audi S4 (the 4.2 V8 one) that was an '05 plate that cost the £240 or so, and remember reading about the dates that the rates changed or something when I was looking at an RS4 to replace it with.....

anyway, apologies RD, not meaning to get into a spat about it or anything, honestly chap Thumbs Up

I paid 6 months and got the shock of my life... £240!! I called DVLA as a little puddle-jumper should have been cheap to run. The previous owner was a disabled girl and i was the first owner to pay RFL. I was stumped too, and no offence taken. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Fact is you can get a half decent reliable jimny for a couple of grand and a gearbox or back axle for the same money if you go the land rover route.
It pains me to say it but there is no such thing as a cheap landy!

JIMNY STILL WANTED

I bought mine 2 years ago for £2200 and have used it everyday for work, school runs etc. It's my daily drive, I love it and it hasn't let me down once even though it's on it's original engine/gearbox chassis etc. Engines are £50, Gearbox £50, axles the same, no tax, £100 insurance and it goes up in value! You can't get cheaper motoring and they are cool with the tilt off Cool Stick in a 200TDi for £300 for better econonmy over the original Diesel but the petrol is a sweet little engine which is what I have in mine (unknown rocket ship mileage at least 8 previous owners many using it as a farm hack! - you can't get a better recommendation that that Thumbs Up )

It's even been to France!
