So this job has grown arms and legs meaning I have been without my defender for nearly 4 weeks. Mostly the delay due to garage getting so far and then needing to order parts and then finding time to get back onto it.
When removing the fuel pump, one of the bolts sheared meaning the timing cover had to be removed to stop crud getting into the timing case when dealing with it. It then made sense at 110k miles to order and fit a new timing chain kit. We went with the one from this thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic75653.html but the fuel pump sprocket was different than that fitted so another part needing ordered. Whilst the delay is frustrating, it is in with the main diesel specialist in Aberdeen so at least I am confident in what they are doing. Once they had removed the fuel pump sprocket, there were marks indicating the chain had been rubbing so was probably stretched. This wasn't visible until they had removed it. So at least the additional expense was justified. Fingers crossed final part arrives tomorrow and then I get it back early next week. Quite enjoying running round in our spare car a 19 year old Ford Ka we got for the kids to learn to drive in! Sat here watching the Last Overland imagining what a 4 week delay would have done to them! |
