Series Military Oil Cooler Fitting
Looking to fit a military oil cooler to keep the original style of my series 2 as period as possible but unsure how they fit.

I cannot see any bolt holes in mine (maybe I didn't look hard enough Rolling with laughter )and looking at the attached diagrams I'm thinking they only fit Military chassis?

Would be great to see how one fits before I buy an oil cooler.

Hi there,

In the original 86/88" S1 Workshop manual it shows positioning of the oil cooler and associated fitting of, on No.1 crossmember from memory Two plates are welded on with threaded holes and likewise the upper brackets bolt to the slam panel of the Front panel.

To note ensure that any Oil cooler you buy has all associated fittings as there the hard to locate and expensive bits

The oil cooler setups differ between s2 and s3. The pipework takes a convoluted route across the top of the engine on the s2, all the pipework is completely different, the sump is different. S2 pipework is all NLA and has to be homemade as and when the original rots out.

You need the two plates welded onto the top of the crossmember as above.

I've fitted a 200 Tdi so wanting to put an oil cooler in.

I saw a military one for sale local and thought that might suit it.

Maybe it might be easier with a little racing type one!

I was tempted to make copper pipes and use a military one as it's quite in keeping with the era.
